Yamaha prop question.

Will a yamaha pro series xL 14 1/2 x 21 fit a 250 hp yamaha engine? How does a larger diameter blade affect hole shot with a heavy load?.The prop that I now have on is a dd quick-silver 48 16318 a4 21p (what is diameter of this prop)and it does okay but very sluggest with extra fishermen in the boat on hole shot,I'm getting to 5500 rpm with good speed for a heavy boat. My present prop is wearing thin (too much time on the sand bars in florida)so it's got to go. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Hi,<br />You say You have a 250 Hp Yamaha, so I guess it is the "HPDI 250" or "V Max 250 HPDI".<br /><br />For 250 hp outboards You can read at Yamaha US, Accessories page what Yamaha orginal props is available to compare. <br /> http://www.yamaha-motor.com/accessories/AcModels.aspx?lid=8&cid=40&conid=5 <br /><br /> http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/subcats.asp?lid=5&lc=otb&cid=18 <br /><br />Black steel 3-blade, Performance 3-blade, Saltwater series 3-blade.<br /><br />In general larger diameter on the prop tend to give better acceleration since larger blade area is present, but You get usually lower speed due to more drag in water.
