My Hurricane deck boat has a 4.3 v-6 with a Yamaha sterndrive on it. No one in my town/area will work on the out drive. It needs to be resealed/new bellows, etc installed. Is it possible to switch it out for another make of outdrive? Can I do it myself,Iv'e never done an outdrive. Boat is decent, engine is fine..hate to throw it away and start over..any suggestions?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard Jon,...
In order to switch drives, yer stuck switchin' pretty much Everything, from the pulleys to the prop...

Yamaha was only sold in North America for a year, or two...
I hear they're popular in southeast Asia...

Most parts are still available. I'm managing to keep a 5.7 running by doing a search on parts then taking that number to my local Yamaha outboard dealer who looks it up on some computer system. I also use the Clymer book for repair advice.

What they said. Pretty easy unit to work on as most will tell you. Just a lot of new/young mechanics out there that is only trained to work on certain brands. Not much different than other drives. But as Bondo said, you would need to change everything out.
