I have a 2004 Yamaha T60 w/58hrs on it. After replacing the water pump impellar I took the boat out and everything ran fine for about 30 minutes. After that the motor began to bog down upon reaching 2100rpm so I limped it back to the ramp @2000rpm-this is what caused me to discover the water pump problem in the first place. I have good flow coming from the "**** tube" so I don't believe it's water pump again. A friend thought it might be a carb issue so we removed the bowls and cleaned a bit of gunk out of #3. Now it does the same thing as soon as I start it up. I know that there is a rev limiter that helps prevent overheating- is there something that must be reset after the first problem I had ? Is it possible that the limiter itself is now the problem?
Thanks for the help if anyone can advise.

This engine is mounted on a Crestliner pontoon boat and not rigged w/ Yamaha gauges. The dash on this boat has automotive type "needle"gauges.I believe Faria manufatured gauges. I'd appreciate any advice/ideas available through this forum.

Re: Yamaha T60 bogs down @2100rpm

I found this on the Yamaha site.Maby it is a oil thing.

RPM reduction is a mode within the engine warning system. RPM reduction is when the engine forces a reduction of rpm during operation. This can be caused by a couple of reasons: an overheating of the engine or the oil system has a loss of oil pressure (four-stroke models) or low oil level (two-stroke models).

RPM reduction is used as a safety measure to try and protect the engine but also to continue to provide mobility in case it is needed. Your RPM will be gradually reduced down to approximately 2000 rpms. The engine should run fine below 2000 rpms but will run very rough if you try to accelerate beyond 2000 rpms.

Smaller horsepower engines, like an F2.5 or F4, may not come with a warning system, or have limited warning system protection. Ask your Yamaha dealership or Yamaha Outboard Customer Relations, at (866) 894-1626, for more details as needed.
