My 50 HP 4 Stroke will not move up or down with the power tilt/trim. There ia a clicking sound when I hit the buttons on the controls or on the motor.
The motor was very sluggish to raise last time we retrieved the boat from the water. I am no mechanic. Any suggestions?

Re: Yamaha Tilt/Trim

hi there. the clicking you heard is the relays for the tr/tilt.check the wires from them to hydraulic motor using a test ligth or a multimeter if they are getting any voltage when pushing the switch..if power-dead motor..if not-bad relay.. hope this can get you started.. :)

Re: Yamaha Tilt/Trim

I've had this problem as well. Here's what I've found, hope it helps:
1. Make sure battery is fully charged and connections are clean (if the motor was sluggish going up or down last time, battery may need to be recharged).
2. If your are charged, check your relays (see my post on July 2, 2003 - I got some great advice on what to check).
3. If you are charged and getting power at your relays, it may be the motor that activates the hydraulic pump.
4. If its the motor, the motor brushes may need replacing (i.e., you're going to need a mechanic to do for you - probably around $200 to do)

Good luck
