Last year, the trim indicator worked perfectly. Now, when the motor is trimmed all the way down, the indicator shows that it is at 25%. How do I adjust?
You don't say how old your motor is. I have a 2003 model. There is a lever which is moved by a tab which is clamped to the spindle that the motor pivots on when you raise and lower the motor. The tab and clamp apparatus was plastic on my motor. In time the plastic cracks and breaks, no longer able to move the lever which will indicate trim position on your trim gauge. Yamaha came out with a metal version of this clamp/tab to remedy this problem. Yours may be cracked and,or is slipping on the spindle and not moving the lever effectively.
Find this on your boat. You can adjust the clamp/tab on the spindle to affect the lever stroke. If you can find it and run your trim you will see how it works. On my boat; as seen from inside the boat looking back at the motor, look for the grease zerk on the left side (as you look from in the boat). You should see the clamp/tab and the lever it actuates to the right of the zerk. Troubleshoot and adjust from there.
I am not using proper descriptions here. The lever is called: Trim sensor cam
The clamp with the tab moves the Trim sensor cam.
Hope this helps.
