Yamaha Used Prices

I'm looking at a '99 Yamaha 25 HP 2 Stroke Longshaft and was wondering what a good price is for it? The engine has only been run in fresh water with all the maintenance records to back it up. The guy is asking $1600 for it. Is this a good deal? Also, is there anything to look for in particular on this engine when looking at it? Thanks.

Check out NADA. They have used boat/engine pricing. Its not the final answer in used pricing,but in my experience has been pretty close to the "going rate" for outboards in my area.

Depending on the model,NADA has that engine for about $1000.

I'm thinking around $1000 as well ($1200 max) especially in this economy. It also depends on the market that you live in as well. Supply and demand.
For that price it should have electric start.
Yamaha's probably have the best resale value out of all outboards since they have a reputation as being reliable.

I highly doubt he is going to get $1600 for it so wait it out and see how low he is willing to go.
There was a couple new 25 hp Yamaha's on ebay that sold for about $2500 shipped.

$1000 to $1200 if it has electric start and I would take it out for a test first just show him the $
