Yamaha VS Johnson argument

Hey Guys,

I've been having a friendly argument with a friend of mine. He's got a 1993 25' Hydra-Sport WA with twin 200hp carbed Johnson's, year 2000.

Another friend has a 2000 28' Wellcraft WA with twin 200hp EFI Yami's, year 2000 also.

They both have 200 gallon fuel tanks.

The guy with the Johnsons's insists that the Wellcraft will use more fuel than his carbed motors, because the Wellcraft is longer, wider and heavier.

Now I'm an OMC guy, so I don't favor Yami's at all, but the fact that they are injected, I'm assuming they put out more torque, and I am pretty sure they have a smaller bore than the Johnson's, I know they will be at least the same if not more efficient on the bigger boat.

Now I know a lot more about engines than he does, but I need a third party to settle this, because he just won't believe me, even though I know I'm right.

On the same boat the Yami's would no doubt be way more efficient, but on the bigger, heavier boat, they must be the same, maybe still a little more efficient than those gas guzzling carbed Johnny's. The fact that the Wellcraft has the same size fuel tank as the older Hydra-Sport, just makes me believe this even more.

I'd also like to really know if the bore on the Yami's are smaller. Maybe a Yami guy can chime in and let me know.

Thanks. Sorry for the long post.

EFI Yammy? Whazzat?

Are you talking about DFI Yammys? If so it will use less fuel than the carbed Johnnys doing the same job.

If you are talking about EFI 4 stroke Yammys, same thing.

Whether the Wellcraft will need more fuel than the H-S is a toss-up. I think it depends on the operator.

EFI Yammi, it's similar to throttle body injection, it's not Direct Injection.

The 28 Wellcraft is a much bigger and heavier boat, but I think the Yammi's will still be more efficient on it that the carbed 200 Johnny's on the 25 Hydra.

Does anyone know the size of that particluar Yammi?
