OK, I'll bite...call me a sucker for a troll.

Now tell the whole story here deejaycee. Your Nissan/Tohatsu posts as always are very misleading. You are a troll.

Deejaycee has a hard on for Tohatsu. And not in a good way. His experiences have been with racing Tohatsu engines being pushed to the ragged edge in an environment that does not even come close to duplicating the normal consumer environment. I can push any engine to its breaking point. I can mis-tune any engine and blow it up if I don't know what I am doing. And he will use broken engines as case and point to a lack of durability in Tohatsu's design.

I chalk it up to someone not knowing the engine they are tuning.

To try to put a parallel between your racing and blowing up engines and normal consumer use are like comparing apples and oranges.

You troll the Nissan/Tohatsu/Honda repair boards. The posts there do not substanciate any of your claims. 99% of what you see there in the repair forums comes from poor fuel quality or poor preventative maintenance- as can be said with just about all outboard issues. Outside of your troll, I have never seen crank issues or any outrageous claims like yours.

Again, you are a troll.

I wonder why inflatbale boat racers keep buying Tohatsu over other brands? It's obvious that just having a Tohatsu on the back of your boat will cause the boat to deflate.

Hahahaha, trolls can't work a PC and I am uncapped what bandwidth is concerned, .... anyway .... like I said before, the standard tohatsu broke as well, not only the tuned and modified ones, the reason why you dont' see any claims like mine is because people obviously havent' tested the true performance and durability to make sure they last, like I did and trying to explain here, if it is so great then why not last longer? .... but what can you expect from a cheaper engine right? .... point is the way we handle these engines, why does the yamha last the longest, if tohatsu is such a good engine like you say why does it brake so fast?.... the boat deflated cause right after the motor seized, another boat went over it and chopped the left pontoon .... inflatable racers dont' buy tohatsu over other engines, they test the field to find a longer lasting engine and then all end up with a yamaha .....

tohatsu makes a good product, the only way impeller pieces can get to the powerhead is neglect or dry starts.
however in saltwater the corrosion resistance of a yamaha is far superior to the tohatsu. yamaha has some nicer features on most their engines. tohatsu is usually significantly cheaper to purchase.
however if it was my money only yamaha would be on my transom.

Dont Tohatsu's typicaly beat Yamahas in stock class racing?
After looking at a few Nissans and Tohatsus, I dont know if I would ever buy one. They just appeared to be cheap, but the biggest issues is the lack of dealer support.
They are probaly a good value for the price.

Re: Yamaha vs. Tohatsu

Do Tohatsu's cost less than other brands? At retail they do, but not to the dealer. All brands are very close, one or two %, at a dealers actual cost. In fact, Yamaha and Mercury sell for less than Tohatsu in 40 hp and larger sizes. As to Yamaha's lasting longer...Maybe. Or maybe not. I sold a South African racer a Tohatsu TLDI 40 on Monday. I guess he and all the other racers I have sold Tohatsu's to, just don't realize that Yamaha's are what they should have on their boats. Or maybe they do know what they are doing...They seem to think they do.

Re: Yamaha vs. Tohatsu

Ya know, we have debated brands of outboards dozens of times before, but does anyone remember a "Tohatsu is Junk" thread before?

I stand by my previous statements. If there were problems, don't ya think that they would have surfaced here before??

I guess the troll succeeded....I just added to the waste of bandwidth....BUT, I just can't resist....I am such a sucker... Next thing you know...I will start posting to the 2 cycle oil threads.... :p

Re: Yamaha vs. Tohatsu

I think Yamaha and Tohatsu make great motors. Tohatsu is less expensive, but they are very reliable. They aren't purpose built to be racing motors because they weren't designed that way. You race with a outboard that is built to be a basic consumer motor, it is going to have problems and most likely break. Not just Tohatsu's, Yamahas will also have problems too. I have a friend who races small inflatables and he goes through tons of motors and he has tried all brands. Outboards aren't meant to be beat on constantly. I don't know why so many people are Tohatsu bashing, they are great motors if you use them the way they were designed to be used. If you have never owned one, stop bashing on them because they are cheap. I'm sure the majority of Tohatsu/Nissan owners are very satisfied.

Re: Yamaha vs. Tohatsu

Just to inform you here in Greece yamahas are the most cheap and tohatsu the most expensive. only thing I know is that I have not seen any old yamahas in nearby ports. Only old mercury, mariner, suzuki and tohatsu still exist.
I own a 1975 tohatsu and it has corrosion problems after so many years because it has no anode.

Yeah but Tohatsu comes with a free paper bag you can wear on your head!

This way you can go incognito when people ask what the heck is a "Towhatsu". What a ridiculous name! I'd pay the extra $50.00 just to get the Nissan name instead.
