Hi all:

I am considering purchasing a 2002 Yamaha XLT 800. At first glance it appears to have normal wear and tear. The price is $4000, without a trailer. I do not have the hours on it as of yet but should have that info shortly. There doesn't seem to be alot of reviews on this jet-ski on the web. Could someone please give me some idea as to what I am considering here. In the past I have purchased many boats but this will be my first Jet-ski. Thanks

Re: Yamaha XLT800

IF IF IF ,,, IF it is in good running condition and good physical condition, it's value is between 4 and 5 thousand, so the price is ok, it is a 120 hp engine and that will do fine. I know several people who love theirs and I know people who don't so as with all used skies it's a gamble if you don't have it checked by a compitent mechanic, all skies are high maintenance and nothing is inexpensive when it comes to having them repaired, so if you pay 4 grande and then have to sink a bunch of money in to the ski, you loose,, if you don't need to sink money in it, it,s a good deal.

Re: Yamaha XLT800

Hi Jeff:

Thank you for your reply. The ski appears to be in good condition. The dealer that is sellining it sold the previous owner two news skis. I have had my boat worked on at this dealer and because of that relationship the dealer has told me he would sell me the ski for 4000, the asking price is 5000. In doing some research I have talked to a dealer who sells Yamaha and other skis and they stated that the Yamahas may not be the fastest but are very reliable.

Re: Yamaha XLT800

I don't do a lot with yamaha so I don't have a lot of first hand experience with those other than setting them up with steering but I have driven them and they seem to be good I drove one quite a bit towing slolom skiers after it was fitted with steering and the only thing I didn't like was the rooster tail getting me if I was doing the observer thing on the back of the seat no big deal though they are a heavy hull and pretty stable. the price is good and if you never owned a ski let me tell you there is a lot of stuff you should know so you don't ruin it, I did a post called help for novice jet ski owners on a site someplace if I can find it I will give you a link so you can read about some of the stuff not to do. here it is http://www.pwcweekly.com/forum/index.php?board=1.0
