Gday again, Im still a bit concerned about the water pressure on my outboard, before I had it rebuilt it seemed to have much stronger pressure at idle than it does now. Generally what is the pressure at idle supposed to be?? Also my mech told me that there are flow restrictors that fit in the exhaust tube(The bit the power head bolts onto) that are no longer available does this sound reasonable?

hello
I dont recall the restrictors in the V4 only the 2.6 l v6 and not all of them. however they are still availible. and they were tiny plastic restrictors that fitted into the block. normally not removed. if they are missing it can cause low water pressure at idle. the normal culprit is a leaking/stuck pressure relief valve. it will bleed off water and not keep the block full and pressurized at low speeds. a quick test is to use needle nose pliers and clamp the relief hose off between the cover and the powerhead adapter. if pressure increases you have a stuck or leaking valve grommet.

i dont believe there are any "restrictors" in the exhaust tube. the hose rodbolt is talking about is a large 3/4" hose that connects at the bottom right exhaust cover(between the cylinder heads) and wraps around right to the powerhead adapter.

BenC
I cant recall any restrictors in the v configured exhaust tubes but I know that some of the 2.6L blocks had two tiny plastic ones. some reman centers remove them but they dont say anything. luckily it was not me that got bit on it but I was the one that had to figgure out why the water pressure was low. there is a tech bulliten on it someplace. but I never heard of it on the V4.
