I just got back from Afghanistan. I am ready to work on something with out guns on it. Before I left I bought this for the family,a 84 Rinker V170 open bow. I got it for a song. It has been swamped at least once. The 2.5 I/O liter is ok,I would like a little more out of it. but for now I am just cleaning up the hull. The PO left it in the water all the time. I also plan to check the mechanicals again and redo the interior.

This is after I cleaned up the hull.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

Thank you all for your support. It means more than you know.

Good news: I got the new front speakers installed
The new key switch, now with accessories
Pulled the stern drive off.
Bad news : While pulling off the stern drive I found a fair amount of water in the driveshaft bellows. I dont see a hole. Which makes me think its been real wet.
and my (new) gimble tool rounded itself so I am sorta half done pulling the gimble, So I gotta find another. oh JOY

Pics to come

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

Thank you Iboats for all the information, I read where my Rinker has foam and fiberglass stringers. When I drilled a couple of holes, the foam through me for a loop.

Got the new trim senders in and inspected the old gimble bearing, The water must have been there for awhile. The bearing doesnt go around anymore.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

I bought another Rinker tonight to cure some of the problems I have. It has the 3 liter and cleaner hull. Now just finish up the bellow and swap some parts around and I will sell my original. Pics coming of the new boat.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

The "extra" starter I had for the boat turned out to be bad. New starter time.

Get it rebuilt it's cheaper and just as good as new (any electric motor repair shops do it)
