year and modle of a 70 hp Jonson by number stamped on welch plug

Hello,

looking to purchase a boat that has a 70 HP Johnson rigged on it. The sticker on the leg is unreadable I have located the number on the welch plug it is G3038715 can anyone help please.

That is the serial number. I have been told that BRP can give you the information you seek if you contact them. I've never tried it.
