Year and size of Mariner

Hello everyone!

I am thinking of buying a boat, it comes with a 4 cyl. Mariner serial number 9427928.
Can anyone tell me the year and hp of this engine? It has been repainted so no decals are visible.

I would also like to hear if anyone have anything to say in general about this engine.

Looking at this website it apears to be an 1985 but could be multiple different Horse powers (75, 35, 20, 9.8, 7.5, 4.5) This is just my guess from what I see with the Serial #. I would call or email the manufacturer directly and see what they tell you. I have had luck with that when calling mercury directly.

Hello again

It must be a 1985 75 hp then, since it is the only one mentioned with 4 cylinders.

The link above is to Mercury Serial Number, but can I use the same for Mariner?

How is this engine? Reliable? Strong? Noisy? Thirsty?
