year? best place to get throtte cable?

I have an old johnson seahorse and the throttle cable broke today. It is model RX-13B, but I can't find the year. I was wondering the year and if I can fix this myself, the best place to get the part.

thanks! Will this be easy for a non mechanic? looks simple enough ...Haven't taken the cover off the control box yet.

not rocket science, take pictures as you go, so you can see how it goes back together. the cable are held to the ends by allen screws.

So far so good...the part is coming in today I hope....I have it all apart and ready... (thanks for the taking pics idea) Are those ends you were talking about unavailable?...I patched the shift cable with quicksteel a long time ago, and the other end is dry rotting and about to break.

Thanks again for the help...I have installed it, but it seems like no matter how I adjust it, it will not stay at full throttle. Wasn't a problem with the old cable, it's like it springs back...What must I be doing wrong?

Adjust the cable so that the actual throttle on the motor reaches wide open position at the same time that the remote control lever reaches it's maximum travel.

There should be a friction adjustment knob on the control to adjust the throttle friction. Wasn't a problem with the old one because of it's decrepit condition...had it's own built in friction.

Thanks for the advice..makes sense....I think that my throtte tension spring is just worn out, and the old cable didn't need it like you said.
