year for merc 50hp

I tried to look this up and I think it's a 1965. Does this sound right.

A guy on craigslist want to sell this for $250. There is a small(2inch) chunk of fin off the side of the lower unit. Will this make a big difference?

Yup... 1965 4 cyl Merc 50hp

Missing chunks of the antiventillation plate are not a huge problem under normal conditions on these smaller motors. If the motor sits high, it -could- pull air into the prop and reduce efficiency. That said, the motor would just look a lot better if you had it repaired.

Thanks AMD. Does $250 sound like an OK price if it runs. The controls are there, but he cut the cables to get it out of the boat.
Otherwise it looks pretty clean.
