Year Model Question

Years ago, I had a 4 cyl 85 Merc, TTL cylinders outside the clamp brackets...old style lower unit/midsection, don't remember if it was DC or not (would be nice to know if it was) but it had 3 stripes down the side of the black cowl, one red, one blue, and I think the third color was silver. Toward the rear of the cowl, one by one they turned from horizontal to vertical and fanned out, like Ranger Bass Boats logo fans out and turns down.

Was that a '70's engine and if so was it prop or power head rated?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Year Model Question

Mid to late 70's and powerhead rated... was actually sold in later years as a 75hp

Thanks. That explains why I could only get 39 out of it on a pretty fast hull and a SS propg. It did start fast, even in cold weather when a lot of others were playing with their engines. Had it for several years and ran perfectly, no problems of any kind. If it's that early a year-model then it probably was cross flow, not Direct Charge as my 115 tower was in the late '80's???????

Thanks,

Mark

It was a direct charge as the 4 cylinder 80 got it first in 1971 and every 80/85 afterwards was a DC motor....
