Hi Paul Believe your motor is a 1970.
Any Mercury should be able to tell you
that. Regards Tom

Re: Year of Engine / Oil Type

Paul: I believe that the gearcase lube used in your motor is the Quicksilver "Premium Blend", but I doubt that the Quicksilver "High Performance" lube would hurt it. If the Mercury brand-name lube is not available near you, check the local Wal-Mart sporting goods department. They usually have a "generic" outboard gearcase lube. Check the label, if often will state which manufacturers' specifications it meets.

I believe that there are anti-foaming agents mixed in, so ordinary heavy gear oil (75W-90W?) is not as desireable. Better than nothing, though!
