Year of Mariner?

Hello, I have a 50 hp Mariner on a 88 Pro-Craft bass boat It has the serial number (OC122O78)...I think thats an 8 at the end of the numbers, but it's hard to see, does that have any bearing on the year...can u tell me the year of this engine so i can buy a manual. Thank You
