year of motor in ser#????

I am buying a motor that the owner states is a 96.The ser# does not have a 96 in it but it does have a 94 in it.Should I assume it is a 94????It is a 150 ocean pro.The motor is all white with blue "ocean pro"lettering.Charlie

Hey, Charlie<br /><br />A 96' will have ED in the model number. A 94' will have ER in the model number. Just so you know when you get ahold of the model number.

No EJ. Could it be EI? In which case it would be a 1991 Model. Give us the whole number...

Would you happen to know what type of gasket is used on the drain plug and vent on this motor.The ones on there now are pretty thick and are like opague colored plastic.Charlie

They are the nylon ones. You can get them at a dealer for next to nothing or possibly a hardware store.
