Year of motor

I am looking at a used motor can anyone confirm the year. Looking at the serial number how does one tell the year? Also what is the good and the bad when it comes to this motor? I am looking at it for a 28 foot pontoon. Do you think it would be worth $600 is has power trim also.

80 hp Mercury serial # 3055918

The only thing we know about it is it has power trim. Well, that's worth $100 if it works.
Count on re-propping it unless it was on a 'toon. There's an easy $100.
