Year of Yamaha 115hp?

I am looking into purchasing a Yamaha 115hp but i would like to know the year first. The seller has no idea, it was given to him by his father. The numbers on the tag are as follows.<br />115AETO<br />6E5 L 352430<br />Thanks in advance

Some will try to say its a 83, but being Yamaha didn't enter the US market till the 84 year, it can't be. Both the O and N models are classified as the 84's. I've seen some of the 84 units with O on one side of the transom bracket and N on the other side. So to answer your question, 1984.

thanks. didn't seem that old. it is a v-4 with oil injection. the owner thought it might be from the mid 90's. i am going to get it compression tested this afternoon. is there anything else i should do before i buy?
