It took me years of trying to figure out why I was losing top end speed out of my '86 Mariner 50. I would lose top end after about 2-3 minutes and if I pumped the blub I would regain rpm for another couple of minutes. I had gone through the ethanol issues with the boat last year. It basicly cleaned all the old varnish from the walls of my fuel tank and clogged all the filters to the extent i had to drain and clean the tank.

This weekend , I replaced all the fuel lines and blub from the interior of the fuel tank to the motor. I was low on fuel so I added 5 gallons and noticed a back surge of gas. I finally decided to check the vent pipe, which was the last place I supected a problem, since it was such a large tube.

To my surprise and and dis-belief I found someone had inserted a small cigar into the vent line. This had driven me crazy for over two years. I'm kind of pissed and relieved at the same time, knowing some EDIT would do this to me, but that I finally figured it out.

Re: years of trouble shooting

I didn't mean to offend anyone with the use of an inappropriate word, which other forums had no issue with. I would have thought one of the other words was stronger.

What would you call someone playing a dirty trick on you that took two years to figure it out?
