After almost 2 weeks messing around with my 20HP johnson 70E, it turned out the flywheel key sheared.. Torqued everything down and 2 pulls and it fired up. Just 1 pull after initial start. Runs GREAT!

Question...

1. The exhaust hole? just above the propeller is dripping with a gray'ish/whitish liquid after outboard has been shut off. What is it? That can't be the oil in the gear case is it? Will check oil tomorrow..

2. how come i can't find number #26 to buy? Not on list @ boatsDOTnet..

The ooze coming out near the prop is normal, it's just unburned gas / oil residue mixed with water. Item number 26 is simply plastic / rubber seal that is sold by the desired length off of a 50 foot roll. I couldn't tell you the diameter but someone else may know.

309044 is the part number for the 50' roll, check with your local dealer, they should have it.

yup, gey sludge is just unburnt fuel/oil mixed with exhaust and water. Part #26 is called a "spaghetti seal", for obvious reasons, and comes in every lower unit reseal kit. You can get and entire kit right here at iboats for about $25. All you need is a seal puller, and some 3M 847 gasket sealant. Here's a link that can walk you through the whole job.
