Yet another "help me choose" question

Last time I was here, you guys helped me walk away from a Crownline 206 that was probably underpowered for what I want (it was a 4.3/220).
We have been looking all summer for a bowrider that is in the 20'-21' range (anything smaller just didn't have enough room for 6 adults). And we want to be able to ski & wakeboard without feeling underpowered.
The general consensus from the board was that we needed at LEAST a 5.0 to have the power and torque to be able to pull a skier comfortably - while still having enough room for at least 3 other passengers, maybe 5 max.

We have stumbled across 2 more boats that seem to fit our needs, and I would like to see what you guys think again.

The first is a 2004 Sea Ray Sundeck. We didnt look at these before because we didnt think we liked the style, but the Sea Ray sundeck still look rather "sporty" for a deckboat. And it has all the features we want - 5.0L Merc MPI w/ 260hp, with a walk through transom, and a few other things. The approx dry weight of this boat is 3500lbs - which is the same as the crownline 206 that everyone said would be underpowered with the 4.3L. So, how will this boat handle with that engine and a skier since it is a "pseudo"-deckboat? It has pretty much the same V-hull as the other Sea Ray bowriders from what I can tell, so it still should handle similar to them, right?

The other option is another Crownline - this time a 2004 216 LS. This one has the Volvo 5.0l GXI 270hp motor. Again, it has all the features we are looking for, and is in fairly good shape. The BAD part about this boat is most of the seat cushions have some mold/mildew stains on the top edge. Like some moisture got stuck in there for a while under the canvas tops and was allowed to just sit there. And, this boat weighs about 3900 lbs dry, 400lbs more than the sundeck, and not much more power. Which brings back my "underpowered" concerns. Will this boat be struggling to pull skiers with 3-5 people on the boat?

The prices are similar on both, and negotiable.

Does anyone here ever ski behind a Sundeck boat? If so, how does it feel, both in the boat and when being towed? And is the seat mildew just a major hassle that I should walk away from? It doesn't look terrible, but it is there and I am guessing they are moldy/mildewy inside the cushions as well.

Thanks in advance.

Power wise you will be fine with either one of those boats, but you need a sea trial because there will most likely be a considerable ride difference between a bow rider and a deck boat due to the deadrise. Both are good choices, I prefer the added depth that bow riders have in the bow area, many deck boats have very shallow bows that seem unsafe to me for kids. But your mileage may vary.

Re: Yet another "help me choose" question

It looks like the deadrise on the 2004 SeaRay Sundeck is 20?, and the deadrise on the 2004 Crownline 216 is 21?. But the new 2007 Crownline 210 (closest model I could find) is listed at 19?. Exactly what impact does that have on the performance and handling?

Re: Yet another "help me choose" question

The Sea Ray Sundeck comes in 3 different sizes, from 19 to 24 foot. So we are completely in the dark on that one.

In very basic terms, less deadrise is better for watersports, more deadrise gives a nicer ride when the water is very rough. 19deg vs 21deg would make a noticible difference, but not a dramatic difference.

Doh! Guess I left that part out. It is a 200 model Sundeck - 21' long with the integral platform.

We are going to try to take them both out this weekend - maybe even on the same day so we have a better comparison of how they feel. But I think I am leaning toward the Sea Ray right now. I dont think I want to deal with the mildew issue on the Crownline.
