OK, I'm this has been hashed over untold numbers of times before, but I need to know! My latest "hot buy" is a '98 Lowe L1605 alum fishing boat (riveted) with a '98 Evinrude 40 with oil injection. Motor has lees than 200 hours, entire package is immaculate. Engine model # is E40ELECR. If I get this one - do I disconnect the oil injection or trust it?

FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH I HAVE RAN THEIR OIL INJECTION FOR YEARS ON SEVERAL SIZES OF ENGINES AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM . JUST BE SURE IT IS ALL IN GOOD SHAPE FROM THE START AND DO THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON THE ENGINE AS DESCRIBED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL , AND I DOUBT YOU WILL HAVE ANY PROBLEMS

Re: Yet Another JonRude Oil Injection Question...

Thanks, "C-BLACKS". I am just a bit unsure about the state of oil injection. I used to work on motorcycles that had it and for the most part they were trouble free. It's just that I have seen posts on this board about this manufacturer and some concerns or problems. So I'm not sure if I should eliminate it.

BTW, what is a "VRO" and does this motor have it?

VRO STANDS FOR VARIABLE RATIO OILER AND YES YOUR MOTOR HAS ONE , UNLESS IT HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH THE NEWEST MODEL WHICH WORKS AND LOOKS BASICALLY .THE NEW MODELS DO NOT VARY THE RATIO THOUGH THEY GIVE A CONSTANT 50:1 MIX ALL THROUGH THE RPM RANGE.

Ivana,

The John/Rude oil injection systems have been blamed for more maladies than second hand smoke.

I've never had a minutes trouble with any of them. Just make sure that you read up on the system and understand what it is supposed to do and how it does it. Make sure all the connections/hoses/tubes are good and you use good oil.

If the boat has not been run much, it might be a good idea to remove the oil tank, clean it out, replace the filter and reprime the system.
Once you do that, run 50:1 pre mix until you notice that the engine is also drawing oil from the tank. Just fill it and draw a line on the full mark with a Sharpie pen.
