Yet another 'what year' question

I've already checked the links in the 'sticky' at the top of this forum as well as searched other sites as well. So, I have honestly tried before asking.

I've got a 4.5 Mercury with brown stripes. The serial number on the plate as well as inscribed on the 'freeze plug' looking thing both show A138078.

None of the sites indicating year of manufacture with a serial number starting with the letter A.

I've already gained a great deal of help from your site.

I don't see anything beginning with an "A" either.
Double check and see if that "A" is actually a "4". If so, 4138078 is a 1975 model 4.5 hp.:redface:

Thanks Can't Cast but an 'A' it is.

The motor is in pretty good condition (meaning it's pretty easy to read). I'll try to take pictures to help identify and post this evening.

Added the photos and also verified the serial number.

Would the brown stripes denote any particular time period? Mid 80's?
