Forgive me as this year is the first time I have winterized an I/O. After changing the oil and fogging the engine, I came up with a novel way to put anti-freeze after draining it. Wanted to see if anyone saw any problems with it. On my Ford 302, the water temp sensor screws into the intake manifold about 2 inches from the tstat housing. I pulled the sensor and used my drill pump to pump in over 2 gallons of the pink stuff. I popped the drain valves for a second, closed them back off, waited a few minutes for any air to bubble out, topped it off, and re-installed the sensor. I then pulled the front hose on my log style manifolds (after draining) and pumped them full. My hope is not to have to keep up with plugs over the winter, and when spring gets here, hook it to the hose, fire it up, blow out the fogging oil,and go boating. Any thoughts?

It sounds as though you were thorough enough but I would have missed one drain fitting had I not re-read my service manual.

When it comes to Marine Engines and Outdrives, follow what the book says or it may cost you dearly.

Pull the battery and fill up if necessary and charge it before you store it.

If all is well with the winterizing, then you are good to go for spring. Recharge battery, hook up water hose and turn the motor over. THe fogging oil will smoke for the first couple of minutes and the antifreeze will just kill the grass.

Don't worry about the the grass though, less to mow so you can get back to the boat sooner!

Mike.
