Hey guys,
I just picked up an '80 CVX16 Deluxe for a real good price :D. My uncle had this exact boat back in the early 80's and I fell in love with it when I was young. When the opprotunity came for me to get one, I jumped on it no matter the condition. Now for the bad news............. The PO left it under a pine tree uncovered for 13 years
After removing three 55gal. bags of pine needles and pine cones, I can see what kind of damage was done. Tha decking is completly gone but suprisingly after core samples, the stringer and transom is solid as a rock. Someone in the past has done a rebuild and they did it really well, The glass on top of the deck was thick and grey??? Ive never seen the type if resin or mat that color before. The outer hull is perefect (minus the small checking in the faded gel coat). This thing has never been beached or ran on the trailer hard. I really dig the low, tinted, wrap around windshield. The original orange button vinyl on the dash and sides is in good shape but the carpet is trash and the front seats are short, swivel type out of a bass boat. My ? is, Does anyone know where I can find the original ugly swivel seats or something simmilar out of another boat from the '70's. Im going to do a retro rebuild using pieces that are 70's ish. The upd ated items will be things like electrical (gauges, radio, lighting, etc.) and the outboard. I have a Merc 150 BlackMax from 1978, but the hull is only rated for a 125. I would like to possibly trade for a 135 Merc or Johnson from the time period (1973 - 1982).
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know. Pics to follow soon:)

Cheers

I felt sad no one has answered your post so I registered. I've been on the Classic Glastron sites since Dec 2012.
Your boat must be the same as mine. Search GCOAMN for 1980 CVX after you register. You will see the pics then. You will find scores or members who will show you step by step how to restore boats. Forget finding another motor. Your Merc 150 is a 135hp rated at the propshaft which Mercury started doing in 1982. Your compression will require you to use Premium fuel. Turn in your Insurance as a 135hp on a 17 ft outboard. They will allow a 10% increase in Hp. Don't ask. Don't tell. If not find another company. Setup your motor height at 3/4" up or the second hole on the transom. Make sure your drain hole in the splash well is not broken. If so the transom is soft. You can get Marine laminated fir 1/2 " plywood at Menard's for $49 this week. You can get polishing compound shown on the classic site by Hyperacme. Use a wool or foam pad plus fine sandpaper. If the transom is good I'll bet you can re-floor it easily. Pull the tank and check for rust or get a plastic or ss or aluminum one. And find the cv 16ss by Randyj Fastest restoration thread ever (CV-16ss)
Do your seats the way he did in the CV16ss. You will like the ride a lot better. Ask for his color and he may get his cousin in upholstery business to help make them. They are perfect.
Any more questions feel free to PM me.

Good luck with your rebuild. At least the structure is sound, the rest shouldn't be too bad.
