Ymaha 2 stroke overheating!

We find we are seeing a lot of weeds in our waterways this summer due to hotter than normal and low water.
My 1989 Yamaha 2 stroke 115 has on occasion let me know by loosing power.
Stopping and lifting the engine finding it greatly entwined with weeds.
I worry of not knowing in time of this lack of water flow.
The gauge gives me an indicator for the oil injection with 3 lights along the gauge but I don't see anything for a heat gauge.
I do keep an eye of the stream of water escaping on the starboard side of the engine.

Any advice on how to monitor that I could add to my routine?

Add a water pressure gauge.
