Yoke and seal replacement alpha 1

Hello all -on a 1986 alpha 1 gen. 1 is there anyway of replacing the aft u-joint without having to remove the whole yoke assembly? If not, do you have to re-adjust the preload on the bearings and assembly to 6-inch-pounds, I do not want to remove the assembly and not being able to complete the job. Thanks-Paul

Go up to the Adults only sticky, you can download the OEM service manual and read what it says about your particular drive. You also need to go by serial number, not year. That 86 year is the year of your boat, not your engine and drive. It could be a year older, or newer for that matter. So look at the serial numbers.

Thanks Don -confirmed it is a gen-1 outdrive.Looked in the adults only section and found the part #'s for the gen2 u-joints only,are they the same as the gen 1's ?
