Just wanted to start a little post on the most useful stuff, that quickly fixes problems, post what you use.
The best thing I have found is Seafoam. There is nothing better. Everytime my old 72 johnson starts acting up, or not starting at all. I dump some seafoam in the carb, a little in the cylinders, and a little in the gas tank .... She smokes a bit at first but it cleans everything out.

Re: Your most useful tool.

preventative maintenance on my old motor would require a rebuild ... which would be more expensive than another newer motor

I too have used SeaFoam for years, BUT a mechanic friend of mine sold me some stuff called "Conklin". I think it "might" be a bit better stuff !!!!!! ;)

A pocket screwdriver like the kind they give to techs for free...

Needlenose pliers...but I should take JB's advice and get a real leatherman:D

Get hooks out of the fish and cuts line easily.

I've been very lucky with my boat so far. But with the cars I've had to work on while at races etc...nothing beats a pair of vice grips for getting you out of many difficult situations.

I'll be honest with ya and say my "wire tester" has been used twice on the water and was able to get me back underway again, instead of towed.
