This may sound dumb, but are the zinc anode that attach to the outboard made of zinc pot metal?

The reason I ask, I would like to make my own. I can make a mold of the shape I need and melt the zinc myself. Pot metal is a low melting point metal and I have scraps to use.

Wanted to see if this will do the same job as a store bought.

thanks,
Dave

Re: zinc anodes

Yes they are made of zinc, but I would be careful of using "pot" metal because you don't know if its 100% zinc or what. The anode metal is chosen so it will be sacrificed instead of the aluminum. I don't want my engine to be the guinea pig that finds out that your pot metal was mostly zinc but not all zinc and the engine starts to disappear on me. The anodes are not that expensive and usually last quite a while. Use your pot metal for artwork or make some deck cleats out of it. :D
