Hey Guys,

I know this is kind of a weird question, but the previous owner of my motor painted the entire thing black, so I'm in the process of determining what is what...

Where are the zincs located on a 1975 Johnson Stinger 75hp? Any idea? I'm afraid there may not be any zinc on the motor at all right now...

Thanks in advance,
Chuckster

Hi Chuckster,
To my knowledge, zinc anodes weren't standard issue back in 1975, although it's quite possible someone could have bolted one on at some point since. Later motors had a notch in the rear of the lower unit for the anode to reside, and there were also some horse-shoe anodes that were bolted onto the front of the leg, just below the clamp brackets.
It's not hard to add a zinc anode if you want to get the corrosion prevention benefits - kits are available at dealers...
- Scott

If it has them they will be on either side of the lower unit by the cavitation plate. If they are not there, there may be spots for them that are currently taken up by plastic pieces that look like zincs. I have an 81 70hp Johnson and it has these plastic pieces instead of zincs, I trailer it so I never bothered to replace them. Good Luck.

I think that chinewalker is correct because none of my 1970's motors came equipped with anodes or places to put them.

I've used teardrop zincs for years though, just bolt them to the top rear of the cavitation plate with stainless steel bolts. Make sure the holes you drill are tight to the bolts so you get a good contact.
