zincs

I bought a boat with a 1990 Johnson 175. It appears to have two zincs at the bottom of the mounting bracket, just below the water line, approx. 2 inches square. Are these the zincs? How are they fastened? Are there zincs anywhere else? I seem to remember some OMC motors having a rectangular zinc attached to the lower housing.
Isn't the adjustable tab right above the prop also a zinc? If so the mental midget I bought it from painted a zinc!
Finally, what is OE prop size?

Re: zincs

Yes, those two should be zincs. There should be a third right above the cavitation plate towards the rear. The bolts for the two on the bottom of the mounting bracket go in from underneath (straight up). I purchased a 100HP Johnson recently that had been fresh painted (zincs included). If they are in great shape, take them to a wire wheel and clean the paint off. Otherwise, it's best to just replace them. The trim adjustment tab is not a zinc unless someone has replaced it with one.

True, zincs are of NO use with paint on them.

There are more zincs, as stated, just above the cavitation plate-rear. Make sure they are paint free.

Also make sure all the grounds, in the engine compartment are tight and clean.
