what are they, why are they used, and where should i check for them on my boat? and what do they look like. this is my first boat and i don't plan on putting it on the water untill i go through everything. i read somewhere that to much or too many zincs can cause your wood to rot or be eaten away? is this the right forum for this thread?

Re: zincs?

'Zincs' is a generic term that is used to describe a sacraficial anode. The anode could be made from zinc, magnesium or a range of other types of alloys or a combination. It totally depends on what the manufacturer recommends and what type of water you boat in.

They are critical for the protection of alloys, they have nothing to do with wood rot, nor do they protect wood.
