Zuke DF70 PTT Removal? Help?

So I have determined that my PTT manual release valve has corroded and is allowing water to enter the oil reservoir. I have ordered the replacement valve, however the slotted portion of the valve that allows a flat screwdriver to open/close the valve is no longer there. I need to remove the valve somehow. To gain better access to the unit I am trying to remove the PTT from the engine mounting bracket completely, however here is the problem: The lower rod that allows the unit to pivot will not come out of the housing, once both bolts on both sides have been removed. What gives? I have been banging the **** out of it, using PBR Blaster, but still cannot get the lower pin out so I can remove the PTT.

What am I doing wrong!

Re: Zuke DF70 PTT Removal? Help?

I do have a manual and did read "remove the starboard side transom bracket" several times, but did not imagine that it would be that complicated to remove the PTT. Unbolting the bracket, disconnecting the steering arm, etc. seems like a pain in the *** just so that I can access the PTT Pump Assembly. I take it dismantling the starboard bracket is required? Meaning I need to attach an engine hoist to the engine, etc. Just checking before I embark on this task....

Why have the manual if you are not going to believe what you read in it? You must not have the factory manual as the first item is a picture showing you just how to support the engine with the hoist.

Seriously, anyone have experience with the removal of the PTT and the removal of the starboard mounting bracket required to access the PTT? I have a freaking manual, but would like some actual "input" from anyone who has experience in actually removing their PTT. I did not post here to get a lecture on "reading" a manual.

Anyone else care to be helpful? Thank you.
