Chrysler 55 sparks once then dosent

I have a chrysler 55 magnapower model:559h9l serial:4651 with the electronic ignition that wont start, i have taken the plugs out and earthed them to check for a spark and it sparks once then doesnt spark again after that untill i turn it over again, has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this problem?

When you say you are earthing them does that mean you are grounding them to the motor? I like to use a vise grips to the threads and clamped to the metal on the motor. Test for the spark in a dark place like your garage. Make sure you have muffs on or motor is in a test tank so you dont burn out your impeller.
