I see some com1 ports on PC's have a choice of speeds up to 230Kbps. My Win XP PC (Dell Dimension 8250 from March 2003) has speeds up to 128Kbsp listed in Device Manager under Port Settings.

Anyone know how to get 230Kbps? Is it a driver update? Tried that but the wizard said there is no better choice than the driver I have.

Even the RS232 on my router goes up to 230Kbps, so why not the PC?

You're looking at the limitations of your MB hardware. The onboard UART is what controls your serial speed. You have 2 options, replace the MB or buy a PCI Serial card with faster serial ports.

Re: High Speed RS232 - 230Kbps

Ahhh, I was afraid of that. While searching for drivers I found some PCI cards with high speed rs232 ports. That was my first clue that it could be hardware.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I've made a change in my hardware so I won't be using the com1 port. But it's good to know for the future.

Thanks,

Mark
