Re: 2001 Silverado Daytime lights have never worked
I have a '98 Venture Van. From the factory, the photo sensor (dash mount) will turn on headlights at dusk, headlight switch does nothing....ever. Their destructions say to operate the headlights normally (manually, with the switch), van must be in Park and parking brake engaged... this is ridiculous.<br /><br />On the second day I owned this van, I changed the system to eliminate this auto headlight B.S. altogether. The fix was simple, push the emergency brake only to the first click. This does not engage the rear brake shoes, but disables the auto headlight function. Later I found a single green wire at the parking brake that goes to ground when the brake is applied. This kills the auto headlight function. The final solution was to ground this wire, release the Park brake, and the light switch works normally. <br /><br />As for the DRL, the problem I have with it is that the manufacturers don't give you an option to easily disable the feature. If there is a programming option in the Body Control Module, that's another thing, but it's usually not in your owners manual.
