Re: New motor need prop starting point

I see it may lift the hull a little more and could be comparable. If you know where there is one I would be willing to try it ;)

I am going to raise it a little more as it did pick up 1 mph from the original position. It is now about 2 3/4 above the keel (av plate)

You're probably nearing the optimum point for a Stiletto. Excellent bookkeeping.

Send me your address in an email -- dhadley50@aol.com and mark the subject as iboats so I won't delete it.

The Turbo 18 you had was a 4 blade, right?

Took it out today. New carbs from a 94 225.
39.8 @ 5600 14.4gph
cruise 32 mph @ 4200 8.7 gph
I think I need to go smaller in pitch though. Where should I go from here?

Was that with the 17 Stiletto?

Yup, I have a 15 pitch bmc almnium to try but I know I have to lower the motor before I run that.

OK, with the Stiletto can you use 100% of the trim range or more like 75 or 80% before it starts venting and slows down?

No at the present height I can't trim it up at all, maybe 1/8 or less through the range up before it loses speed. The rpms do not go up though, it just loses speed. It also will not bite at cruising speed unless trimmed all the way in.

Dhadley can you post in my other post (to rejet my 120 or not?) in johnson troubles, about setting the idle mixture screws and link sync of a 94 carb?

That Stiletto should not let loose that early unless it's worn or someone has reworked it using an SST pitch block.

The thing that bothers me is that the rpm should go up when it vents and you lose speed. Thats wierd that it doesnt.

Brand new from Precision, not reworked. I want to try another prop but only have a 15 pitch alumnium to try. I might give that a shot next week. Just to make sure it gets 6000rpm.

I had an 18 Lightning Jr. I'm hoping that with the additional diameter and bite it'll work well.

Great, I will run it at the present height to get a baseline then raise it and post again.

Re: New motor need prop starting point

Well here are the results:

41mph @5400 rpm

This was just at the point where trim started to vent the prop, about half way. If I went too far 39mph at 5600 but was able to trim up all the way and not lose the bite any more than that.
It needs more height as I had alot of spray from the front of the av plate.

I think this prop is much better suited to the jackplate as the boat seemed better all around

Dhadley the blade design is soo different than the stiletto. It seems like the cup was less on the turbo and it did not continue around the blade as far as the stiletto. How does this prop bite so well and have the ability to run as high as it does.

I think I want to test some more and will cry when I pack her up for the trip to the sunshine state ;)

Re: New motor need prop starting point

It was also quite windy and 2 to 3 foot chop so not the absolute best testing conditions. I wanted to raise it at the ramp but my fingers were numb and could not turn the wrench. I will raise and retest on sunday
