Re: New motor need prop starting point

Well the northeast wind finally died down and was able to run it. Full fishing load and a buddy full load of fuel.
5400 rpm max and 39.8 mph
I raised it a 1/2 inch. I could only trim 1/8 to 1/4 the way through the range.
Cruised very well slight loss of bite on waves (2 to 4) chop but settled right back and no loss in speed.

Dhadley Do they make this prop in a 16 or 17 pitch???

I really think I need to step down to get to 5800-6000 we are looking for

I am going to try the 15 pitch just to see what happens.

Ran the Boat again today Johnson 15 pitch 13 3/4 dia.

39.8 at 6000
Here's the best part. It seems to be able to run higher than the turbo as it can be trimmed further than the turbo. I just changed the prop and not the height yet.

Comes out of the hole great

Dale I am going to ship back the turbo lighting jr

I am going to look for a 15 pitch stainless and sell my stiletto 17 pitch

What do you think would be a good prop?

I'm not Dhadley, but asking what would be a good prop???? In most cases, you had the best available...the OMC prop is likely running higher without slip because of diameter, I'm not sure...the results are not typical.

Kenny I value your opinion as much as dhadley's
You are right the omc prop is the best so far as it runs only 2 mph slower than the turbo but the holeshot is much better and seems to be able to run higher than the stilletto and turbo lighting jr. But the dia of the omc is 13 3/4 and the stiletto is 13 1/4 I don't know what the turbo is as it is Dale's prop.

When I loaded the turbo down with fishing gear and friends holeshot was bad and it only toped out at 37 at 5100. Way too low

I was dumbfounded yesturday as the alumnium was so close to the turbo and stilletto thats why I asked what was a good prop.
The stiletto will not run at this height. I am a half inch higher than the stilletto was (blowingout with little or no trim at wot)
With the turbo at this height I could trim up at wot about 1/4 the way up and it ran 41 with a light load but could not hold at 4000 rpm without trimming in all the way. The omc will run at this height and at wot will allow 1/2 trim before losing speed. I can trim up all the way and only lose 1 mph off the best while rosstertailing. At cruise I must trim it in but only a little and it does not blow out.

Kenny or Dale what is the largest dia that can be run on the v4 gearcase?

I also must admit the omc alumnium is not inperfect condition one blade has a small bend in it from when they shipped the motor
