Well, Ann Coulter number one selling author, radio talk show host, and right wing columnist, seems to have got caught plagiarizing other peoples work in her latest book.

It seems that John Barrie, creator of the iThenticate plagiarism-probing system, has caught the cuddly conservative doll, with the bobbing adams apple, in at least three examples of what he called textbook plagiarism in the new Coulter book "Godless" after he ran text through the program.

It didn’t stop there, but continued into her weekly columns, which is syndicated to more than 100 newspapers. She even plagiarized when she had a column about U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter, in her Aug 3,2005, column titled read my lips: No new liberals, it seems that column had six passages ranging from 10 to 48 words that appeared 15 years earlier in the L.A times titled Liberals Leery as new clues surface on Souter,s views.

Wow it seems that the cuddly doll of the neocons could at least have given some credits to the original writers of the articles doesn’t it? Here is my source if any body cares to read it.

From Ann's latest column.

She added: "Maybe the Post's constant harassment of me is an attempt to shake me down for protection money like they did with billionaire businessman Ron Burkle. I have sold a LOT of books -- more books, come to think of it, than any writers at the New York Post."

Jealousy perhaps? Probably not. Just another prime example from the Left's playbook... if you cannot intelligently respond to the accusations, attack the accuser.

Who cares what she writes, or where she gets it from?

Of all people, she is the least possible threat to anyone. Only the extreme right takes what she says seriously, and while they may be able to put her on the Best Seller list, they can't do much else

TREEDANCER GETS 1 (ONE) SPEEDING TICKET:

Publisher: Ann Coulter No Plagiarist

The latest media attack on Ann Coulter seems to be a desperate measure to undermine the credibility of one of America’s most prominent conservative voices.

Soon after her book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism” was released in June, Coulter made waves – Hillary accused her of being "heartless” and "vicious” -- for questioning the motives of four 9/11 widows.

With Coulter’s book topping the New York Times’ bestseller list, new allegations are surfacing that Coulter plagiarized material for her book and syndicated news columns.
But the publisher of Coulter’s book, Random House’s Crown imprint, has reviewed the plagiarism allegations and has found them to be baseless.
"We have reviewed the allegations of plagiarism surrounding ‘Godless’ and found them to be as trivial and meritless as they are irresponsible," said Steve Ross, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Crown Publishing Group.
Ross continued: "Any author is entitled to do what Ann Coulter has done in the three snippets cited: research and report facts. The number of words used by our author in these snippets is so minimal that there is no requirement for attribution. As an experienced author and attorney, Ms. Coulter knows when attribution is appropriate, as underscored by the nineteen pages of hundreds of endnotes contained in ‘Godless.’”
In the weeks after "Godless” came out, leftwing blogs began making claims that Coulter had engaged in plagiarism.
Apparently prompted by these reports, the New York Post asked a California firm to review Coulter’s writings with its iThenticate software, a program the checks databases to uncover plagiarism.
The syndicator of Coulter’s newspaper column, Universal Press Syndicate, is also investigating claims of plagiarism and should have a report out this coming week. Universal Press Syndicate has been under pressure for some time from liberal journalists and publications like Editor & Publisher to drop Coutler’s column

The left predictably step in excrement once again, in their attempts to get us on the right to step in it. I marvel at the speed at which their color=black]BS
machinery propagtes their bilge on this thing !!!!
Fascinating to say the least!
I can't wait for your next "report", Treedancer.

To me these are not baseless, looks like serious plagiarism to me, Kathie Kerr of Universal Press Syndicate, which distributes Coulter’s column stated that I think Ann Coulter is the one that needs to address this. It seems that your quoting Steve Ross, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Crown Publishing Group. Maybe he doesn’t want to tank the golden goose, after all it’s a number one on the TIMES bestseller isn’t it?

Nice job 12footer. You got members of the left questioning the integrity of the press. They are wondering if the press has an agenda. We have been trying to get them to hear this for years to no avail. Your greatness is shining through. It is like a public service you are providing.

Keep up the good work.8)

Ya, good one there Feetz.

Treedancer, thanks for admirably demonstrating one of the great flaws with liberal thinking... what you think or feel is more important than fact.

A few facts for you Ka Gee,you must have overlooked them in my above post.

(Fact = John Barrie, creator of the iThenticate plagiarism-probing system, claimed he found at least three examples of what he called "textbook plagiarism" in the new Coulter book "Godless" after he ran its text through the program.

He also discovered verbatim copying in Coulter's weekly column, which is syndicated to more than 100 newspapers by Universal.

(Fact= Her Aug. 3, 2005, column, 'Read My Lips: No New Liberals,' about U.S. Supreme Court
Justice David Souter, includes six passages, ranging from 10 to 48 words each, that appeared 15 years earlier in the same order in an L.A. Times article, headlined 'Liberals Leery as New Clues Surface on Souter's Views.' But nowhere in that column does she mention the L.A. Times or the story's writer, David G. Savage

(Fact= Her June 29, 2005, column, 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Religion,' incorporates 10 facts on National Endowment for the Arts-funded work that originally appeared in the same order in a 1991 Heritage Foundation report, 'The National Endowment for the Arts: Misusing Taxpayers' Money.' But again, the Heritage Foundation isn't credited."

I don’t know what the two above statements have to do about the topic, other than it is a typical conservative tactic if they cant refute what your saying derail it /jump to another subject.

I dont know what the specifics are as to the alegded plagerism by Ann. I do know that when writing literature to educate one an a given subject, it would be easy to repeat what has already been said by others that have done the same before them.

Doubt that the peoples she is allegded to have copied are not complaining.......just a guess

Oh and the software....is it validated? it really sounds rediculous...LOLOOLOLO 8)

One way liberal glasses here... get them here! As long as you have them on you can easily and with no guilt accuse conservatives of doing what the libs have perfected to an art form. Lets run Hillary's book through the soft ware to just keep the playing field level here.

There is an entire practice of law called "Intellectual Property" that copywrite laws define. Ms. Coulter has included a lot of referances in her book so this may just be a case of over sight by either her or her editor. Either should have caught it. If she did post a list compiled by another researcher credit should be given to that author. If it was left out of the book the publisher can include it in later printing and a public acknowledgment would be warranted. This has happend before and will happen again. That is why proof readers and editors have jobs.

Doubt that the peoples she is allegded to have copied are not complaining.......just a guess

Doesn't matter if they complain or not. If an ommision of credit has been proven the party commiting the ommision should make the appropriate efforts to correct. Maybe some of these folks are no longer living.

Oh and the software....is it validated? it really sounds rediculous...LOLOOLOLO

What's to validate? The software is basically a text based application that works a lot like Google. In its data base it has access to mountains of published data. You enter the text you wish to check out and it scours its data base to find matches.

If it finds matches and you can verify that the matches are there then what is there to validate? The software did not create the previous book, document, pdf, whatever. It just scanned through it to find matches to text it had been given as a target.

[Syndicator Denies Coulter Lifted Material
Jul 11 8:33 AM US/Eastern
By HILLEL ITALIE
AP National Writer
NEW YORK

The syndicator of Ann Coulter's newspaper columns rejected allegations that she had lifted material from other sources, saying a review of the work in question turned up nothing that merited concern.

"There are only so many ways you can rewrite a fact and minimal matching text is not plagiarism," Lee Salem, editor and president of Universal Press Syndicate, said Monday in a statement.

"Universal Press Syndicate is confident in the ability of Ms. Coulter, an attorney and frequent media target, to know when to make attribution and when not to."

The New York Post and the Web sites Raw Story and the Rude Pundit have cited numerous passages in Coulter's syndicated columns and in her current book, "Godless," that appeared to resemble text from other sources. The Post relied upon a software program, iThenticate, designed to catch plagiarism.

Last week, the Crown Publishing Group, which released "Godless," also dismissed questions about Coulter's work, calling them "as trivial and meritless as they are irresponsible."
