An open apology

Everytime I open iboats I glace at our Total Members and Total Posts. Wow! A fantastic growth rate and the wealth of knowledge is endless.

I want to extend an open apology to any member of iboats that has been offended, insulted, or attacked directly or indirectly from topics that we discuss, political and personal viewpoints and even a few enjoyable off color jokes. Please keep in mind we are a boating community and boats are our common bond.

It binds us together with every nationality, race, sex, color, ethnic background, religious belief and even sexual orientation.

There are alot of BBB (Bulliten Board Bullies) who enjoy starting trouble aside from them I would not hesitate to reach out and help any member in trouble.

I may not be the best typist but there are threads (topics) that have probably insulted many.

Thank you for your tolerance and please do not "abandon ship" and accept my apology.

To our Mod's - there was a time when threads got locked up at a faster rate when they got out of hand. I would consider those some of the good old days.

We are naturally opinionated!

Re: An open apology

I can't speak for the rest of the mod squad, Bob, but I have consciously backed off recently, from editing and deleting posts and threads that had content that I thought was not in the iboats style or spirit.

I thought maybe i was getting too harsh.

Maybe I was wrong.

I think you were right on target JB. I'm not saying you were harsh but I ain't saying you weren't either. The new you is much nicer and I appreciate it.

From a guy who has probably just (barely) stayed under the radar I've always appreciated the cool hand that kept things from going too far. A longer leash is good but only so far. Your instincts are good JB even when they ebb and flow a bit.

As in any large amount, there are always a few bad apples. Just gotta keep away from em.

JB has done a wonderful job since the forum was started. Sometimes I wonder how he can donate the amount of time that he does to the board. I can't think of any one member that has been ridiculed more than him for doing his job. I can't let the other mods go un-noticed as well since they are a big part of patrolling this board also.

Being offended is part of life and some people just need to learn from it and get over it. Give it time and eventually there will be an amendment to govern offensive behavior.

I would just like to say that the moderators here at iBoats do a pretty damn good job of keeping things on an even keel. It's often an unenviable job requiring diligence and perserverence and a whole lotta common sense.

As a moderator on a number of BBS's & web sites I can fully appreciate the time and effort you all put into keeping this virtual community alive and well.

Moderating a BBS is often a thankless job open to all types of criticisms and whatever and you probably don't here this very much but, well done chaps.

Yours Aye!

Hey Bob. I see where you are coming from, but Iboats is a very tame place compared to other BBS. True, we all have our "moments"... self included.

"Can't we all just get along?" Peace!

Re: An open apology

I think that all of the mods do a good job of patroling the board. We (myself included) get a little harsh at times mainly on Dockside chat but even though there are several of us that don't agree and probably never will I think most of the disagreements are done in a somewhat adult manner. Since my job is sort of in the public view this is about the only outlet I have to be able to express exactly how I feel about things. Thanks to all for allowing me to do that! 8)

Re: An open apology

Well despite my role in some of these controversial threads I do think this is generally a pretty civil place.

Personally I try and treat DC as I would a real dock. I imagine sitting there after tying off the boat and discussing things with friends over a cold one. I have boating friends that don't think like me and others that do. I have had some of these same debates on a real dock and recall a rather heated one with my BIL this summer.

Thanks again JB and other mods for patrolling the dock and keeping us out of the water . . .

Re: An open apology

Having felt the sting of a ZAP or two early on in my career here. I learned (by pushing the envelope) what was and was not acceptable. JB and crew deserve an att'a boy for the job they do. FWIW my indiscretions were all of the "not suitable for a family environment" type infractions, funny but not appropriate. That reminds me a Duck, a Rabbi and a Blond walk into a bar. The bartender says.............................oh never mind, I'll save JB a Zap on this one.....;);)

Re: An open apology

I have no idea why anyone would feel the need to apologize, open or otherwise.

If you have such a thin skin to where disagreements are taken so personally, this forum, or any other similar forum, is not the place to be.

The one thing I can assure you is if a person has an opinion, it is a sure bet that someone else has or will have an opposing opinion.

And I thought it was just the libs that were so intuned to their "feelings!"

All anyone needs to do is spend a few minutes on one of the other boating forums and you will have a new appriciation for this one. This is a pretty tight ship (pun intended)d:)

Re: An open apology

. I try to not say anything on this board that I wouldn’t say to a person’s face, seems to be a good enough goal.

O yes a big well done to the mod squad
