Re: Speak English

Reminds me of a line from a WWII B war movie.

"SSsssso, coloner; you are suplised I speak you ranguage. You ssssseeee, I was educated in you countly. At UCRA."

The presence of illegal aliens in our country and our failure to control their entry is a problem worth debating and doing something about.

All this whining and griping about language really confuses the issue and unfairly attacks many persons who are here legally. No law requires them to converse in English or you to converse in any other language.

Get straight what you are angry about and focus on the REAL causes. It ain't facility with English.

Maybe you missed this? www.visaus.com/citizen.html
Or maybe this http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/natz/index.htm

a period of continuous residence and physical presence in the United States;
residence in a particular USCIS District prior to filing;
an ability to read, write, and speak English;
a knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government;
good moral character;
attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution; and,
favorable disposition toward the United States.

If THEY want be here LEGALLY, they must be able to speak and understand ENGLISH. Doesn’t have to be perfect, but must be able to speak and read it.
Your mocking of the Japanese is in bad taste if my mocking of mex is as well.

Re: Speak English

Where I work in a shop where English is the 3rd spoken langauge Spanish 1st then the Vietameese{sp}. Well it got to the point where they wanted to save money so they hired a bunch of the 2 above mentioned nationallitys that could not speak and read English and had a few that barely could and put them in charge. The idiots{bosses} blamed the production workers for the lack of finished product to ship for the reason in drop in on time deilivery , But the pick/shippers couldn't read the orders. Now as of 1/1/07 all new hires have to pass a English and understand what they have read type test that is written, ans existing employee have to pass the same in order to keep your job, there is all ready a lawsuit to stop it filed by a group of people, the company legal dept, says because more than 90% of the companies business is done in English they can force the test as part of employment. i was glad to see the test but they bought it on themselves.

I wont say what corperation I work for here's another brillant one they shut down one of the 2 union shops they had a few years ago the average pay for machinist was around 16.00 per hour and moved them down to little Hanoi in Texas where over 3/4 shop is people from Viet-nam make about 7.50 and they are happy with that. What the upper mangament did was talked around 10 people from the closed shop to relocate there for the same money, they trained the Vietameese there for 6 months and then systematicaly let every-one of the go.......nice people... all this from a company that tried to put Stanley Tools out of business and nearly did by forcing the Made in USA removal from there packaging and costing Stanley Tools millions in court battles........

Right on the money, as usual... hate it when that happens 8)

The real issue is the temerity of these people to hold mass protests, go on strike, and act like we owe them something because they do domestic and agricultural work... and want us to change our laws to accommodate them !!!!

Around here most of the Motel maids are Hispanic. I live in The Lilly Capital of the World, most of the field workers are Hispanic. The only other industry here, besides tourism and fishing, is the lumber/timber industry.

When I first came here I got a job in the Lilly fields for minium wage, got up an hour early each morning and went to the lumber mill to check for work before going to the fields for 8 hrs... after 2 weeks they got tired of seeing my face and hired me. Today 1/2 the workers in the mill are Hispanic, all you have to have is a green card, but YOU HAVE TO HAVE THAT CARD, or it's back to the field.

My point is, incase you missed it, if you play the game by the rules, you are good to go, if not, you should be called out for fouls. No self-respecting business will hire illegals, if you come to this country just do the paperwork, then you have nothing to bi*ch about.

Re: Speak English

There is a difference between a lawful resident and a citizen.

Lawful resident = 10 yr visa & work permit = green card, no other requirements to get green card except background check and proof of financial independence

Citizen = all the other requirements

Re: Speak English

blu lunch, you should be aware that a company can't hire a resident alien unless they can demonstrate a skill that can't be found among citizens. Therefore your company either hired U.S. citizens, or else your management is composed of criminals.

Re: Speak English

USA's hispanic population is increasing and will surpass all other ethnicities in short order.No elected official that seeks this soon to be majority vote is going to touch the illegal influx issue with a ten foot pole.Too much spanish speaking homegrown support.We're all a bunch of dinosaurs.And if you don't like it,then you're a racist bigoted dinosaur whose hope of existance is pinned on an inverterbrate politician.What the he$$ happened to the "no need to lock your doors at night" country I grew up in just a few short years ago?That's a rhetorical question.

Re: Speak English

My wife is a permanent resident alien, came here 18 years ago and files when required... no big deal... she plays the game by the rules, well educated, and holds a very good job.

The other side of the spectrum is "Little Mexico" about 30 miles South of here (shone on the map as Smith River, CA. ) No English spoken there, and if you are a white, don't go there after dark... if you are a female, don't go there PERIOD. They have taken over that town and whites are not welcome.

Maybe these mass protest will wake America up, wake US up to the second American revolution...LOL... in my dreams.

Re: Speak English

Back in the forties, an old Jewish woman went to the local vegetable stand and asked the vendor, "Give me for 10 cents, borekes" (Beets for Borsht). The vendor asked, "Mrs. Shapiro, How long have you been here in America?" She told him, "Two weeks from next Chanukah, twenty-two years." His reply was, "Well Mrs. Shapiro, Don't you think that after twenty-two years you should be speaking English completely? You should have asked for 10 cents worth of beets." She said, "Beets.... By me, beets is where we go to cool off in the heat of summer. My daughter-in-law, that "son of a be.... Better you should give me 10 cents borekes."

The company that just hired my wife ( one of the largest managers of ALF's and nursing homes in this country) picked her out of a list of 10 for her education and experience. They are not criminals, are audited 4 times a year, (just finished one last week) and she is a resident alien.... not real sure where you got that info.
