Religion is the crutch the weak and immature use to ward off the one irrefutable fact of life.... when you die, you are dead.... forever.

Well, there's no more proof of that than there is proof that the Christians are correct...or for that matter, scientologists. My belief is I don't know who the eff created the universe, or what the eff will happen when I die, and neither does anybody else. End of story.

Honestly I think religion is the worst thing that ever happened to society. More wars and deaths have been caused by religion than nuclear bombs...

We live next door to a Jehova's Wittness family. (not for long) When their 10 year old told my nine year old she was going to hell for celebrating her birthday, I just about lost it! My daughter was in tears as she told me about it. How do explain that CRAP to a nine year old?

God, I can't wait to move!!!

Re: I'm sick of politics. Let's discuss religion.

Z is bordering on correct with some HUGE exceptions. There is no definition of right and wrong without religion. I defy you to find another definition that is not simply a personal interpretation: one that is steeped in 1000's of years of . . . religion. I don't care where those rules came from, only that they exist.

Evil people cause wars in the name of religion, not the other way around ;)

Where I agree with Z is that it takes faith to believe that absolutely nothing happens after death. It also takes a whole lot of faith to believe that we poofed out of nothing, from nowhere, for no reason. Faith in . . . errr, well, uh, nothing. Faith that I used to think was very logical, until I realised there was no logic in that . . .

As described in a dictionary, religion is a belief. So it is everyones freedom to believe what they want. I pray for the beer god to fill my fridge, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,daily!

The owners of the tampa bay buccaneers live a double life.In order to make sure that they control football, they also bought the Manchester united football club in England. They have both their footballs covered.

Rolmops, Mr. Glazer sure does not have the same congregational following in England as he does here. 8)

Re: I'm sick of politics. Let's discuss religion.

I started to believe and wonder if all religions were started by one higher power and that human influences over thousands of years have screwed up the true teaching of this higher power. As a Catholic, my religion has been changed by human influences in many ways. Sex scandels, and whole sale killing in the name of God just to name a few.

What I do believe this that there is a Heaven and Hell. I believe our true rewards for a good life will not come here on earth but in Heaven. I try to share my good futures with ours, treat all people as equals, and thank God for every day I am alive.

If I am wrong, the worst that will happen is that I lived a good life with a loving family that cares about our fellow humanbeings, I die, and nothing happens. If I am right, I will hopefully go to Heaven (or whatever is there) and learn the true meaning of what religion on earth is suppose to be.

Ah the great God of boating does truly demand sacrifice and if you don't appease him/her then you are doomed to an eternity of jet-fleas :^

You sure got that right Dan............in fact a large number of fans in this country would happily help Mr Glazer meet his chosen God a lot sooner than he'd wish

Mr Glazer does not have very much to do with either team.It is mostly his 2 sons who live very close to me in Brighton,Upstate New York.
They bought Manchester United because one of the wifes is a soccer mom,so they decided to play along.
I would hope that you are wrong about this little comment with the  in it.It would be very uncomfortable for me because we are members of the same temple that the Glazers attend.

Re: I'm sick of politics. Let's discuss religion.

My thought
I do not believe that god is real in any religion. What i do believe is if enough people believe in something it becomes real.
What i like about most religions is the ideology of people helping people in there groups. This gives people a sence of belonging.
What i dont like about religion is some people seem to think thay are of a higher power than other people that are not of there religion. These people look down on every one and yet if you point this out thay will deny it.

Re: I'm sick of politics. Let's discuss religion.

I spent this weekend in a pretty posh hotel - playing tourist in my hometown of Baltimore. Also staying at that same 400 buck-a-night hotel was a conflagration of Catholic muckety-mucks in town for the Basilica of Our Lady of 33rd Street rededication or some BS like that.
Just contributes to my religion/Amway analogy I alluded to in other threads - these guys are living it up on the contributions of the poor saps they can convince to give it to them under pretense of doing some "god's" work. The higher up the ladder, the more dough they get. The greatest money-making scheme ever invented. And people are still stupid enough to keep opening up their wallets. Amen.

Re: I'm sick of politics. Let's discuss religion.

according to the new testament, Jesus was sent by his father as the ultimate sin offering for the world, and i believe this.

The new testament also claims that this was done because the laws (of the old testament) were too much for man to follow. And I dont mean just the 10 commandment, but all the laws, no eating pork, and all the other jazz the Jewish community still follows.

So, If a jew manages to follow all these guidelines (or laws) will they still go to heaven denying the Son?

Some say YES, and I really would like to agree with this. BUT, The new testament also teaches that denying the Son is calling the Father a liar.

Im sorry but if the WHOLE bible is God inspired, wich it is, then it is written that answer is no.

Re: I'm sick of politics. Let's discuss religion.

It's obvious the people on this board don't take religion as seriously as they do politics, by now I had expected this to degenerate into one big flame war. 8)
