Interesting... I have not seen this sponge technique before. I'm in quite a few construction sites for commercial buildings and never noticed this. Mostly I see them hit the joints with a "pole sander" and sandpaper that looks more like metal screen than sandpaper.
So if I wanted to use the sponge, would I be correct to assume you need to get the joints as flat as possible with your joint knife since the sponge isn't going to knock down the material like sanding would?
