Stick with 87 octane gas and TC-W3 outboard oil at 24:1 and it'll live a long time. Hopefully you've got the intake silencer and the screen that goes over the carb - a lot of people removed them thinking it would make the motor go faster. It just makes them run bad.
There were few changes over the years and not many significant ones (excepting the folders of course!). Lightwin was the Evinrude version. In later years it got developed into a 4hp, then a 4.5 and then back to a 4hp. It's probably the best small engine ever built.
Other than the coils and related problems like wobbly armature plates (same for all the '50s-early '70s 1 and 2 cylinder J/E engines using the universal magneto), common problems are dented gas tanks, filthy carburetors, and if it was used a lot in salt water there is sometimes a tricky cooling problem. If the cooling system was neglected and the engine never flushed, you could get a build up of crud that would block the cooling to the head and cylinder jackets, but still allow water through the block.
