OMC engine serial number and HP

Where is the S/N on a OMC 120/140 engine block?
I found a K and several numbers on the block right above the starter. Will I be able to find out the HP with just the serial number??

Yes.......Do you know what year it is?

The boat was built in 1979. So I am assuming the engine is a 1978.

Your going to need the model number. Then you can look at this link and see what you have. Click on OMC Stern Drives 1964-1993......The model #'s are listed on pages 66 thru 71.

If it has a harmonic balancer on the front of the crank, It's a 3.0L/140HP
If it just has a pulley, it's a 2.5L/120HP

thankyou for the info.i found the mod.# but still have no clue on the hp of the motor.its an 88yr 3.0 might you know the hp?

the 2.5l is 120hp........

the 3.0l is 140hp..........

got a question for you bond-o,i have a 16.5ft boat and the floor where the jump seat sits is not very strong.i can stand on it but it is a little soft.will the rott keep moving up the floor or can i put a lot of fiber glass on it to give it strength.
