I can't help it. I am going to add a flame thrower  to this thread...Can a person who has cheated flagrantly on a spouse be trusted in public office or has he/she shown that they already lack the necessary morals and integrity?

I guess a follow up question would then be are morals and integrity a standard we should deem necessary for holding the keys to the White House? I think so -call me old fashioned... I am going to go get some popcorn...

Rudi would possibly be the Only republican I could vote for.Afterall ,he is a New Yorker republican, which means that he is more progressive than most southern democrats.
As for his morals. The world is a mean place and it takes a nasty SOB to properly navigate its waters. If I wanted a monk to run America I would vote for the pope.

Another celebrity candidate. BFD. Can't we find someone who has 10 times the upside as down? How can anyone who doesn't support the party platform expect to get the party nomination?

Re: Rudy Giuliani for President

Excellent point, Admin5.

However, in my lifetime there have been two Presidents that I see as morally superior characters: Jimmy Carter and Ron Reagan; the worst and best Presidents of my lifetime. All the others were/are flawed characters

Jimmy Carter is a very admirable human being but didn't have the steel to deal with the challenges of the Presidency. Ron Reagan had that steel.

So, sad as it is, I don't see a strong corrolation of moral character to successful leadership in the toughest job on earth.

I do see John McCain as a very moral man. . .if the party line doesn't seem right to him, he says so. I see that same strength of character in Joe Lieberman.

Too bad we can't run McCain/Lieberman.

Although my tendency is to like lieberman, I still say he sold his soul when he ran as VP with Algore. I could not believe the things I heard come out of his mouth during that campaingn. It's like they handed him the script and then held a gun to his head. He really prostituted himself during that gig!:%

Hey Boom, There is only one issue that Liberman is decent and realistic about: the war in Iraq and on terror. He is very hard left about most other issues. That said: he is the only apparent real STATESMAN in the current Democratic party, (which does make him stand out as he now does in a very positive way). He would be a terrible VP or any other powerfull National office as he is still a very Liberal Democrat on most other matters that most Cornservatives I know seem to care about. Forget McCain Lieberman etc. that is just fantasy, (I want to smoke some too)! McCain is a real Republican, just one that will be hard for me to support, but there is no question about McCain vs any PUKE current Democrat. If McCain wins the nomination I will support him. Respectfully (there my alter ego) JR

Rudi like Bush is another liberal republican and McCain is one of the Keating 5, more business as usual.

Show me a ticket thats fiscaly conservative, pro military, anti-abortion (not pro-life) anti-racist (doesn't beleive in subjigating a class of people for their votes, through social hand-out programs and pandering) Pro gun and tough on crime and thats the ticket I'll be voting for.

The political pendulum has been swinging to the left for a long time now. Lets get back to where we were before the "sex drugs and rock and roll" crowd took over, and then have perpetual grid-lock.

I try to quickly admit when I am wrong. I talked about this thread and my post with a fellow iboats employee and they pointed out that with the criteria I set up there would be very few who would be "worthy" to have the job. They also brought up the fact that very few presidents have kept their hands to themselves and that though Carter probably didn't sleep around he was a lousy president. I agree with you JB and rolmops that maybe we don't need a priest running the place afterall.

I need some time to think on this one...I might be changing my mind. +o(

You thought at one time we needed a Priest to run this country?.... were you out of your frikin Lib mind?

WE have to have, need more than ever, a realistic, hard-nosed, in your face person that has nothing but our own national interests in mind. I’m not one of those “consensus” Dudes..... if the rest of the world doesn’t like it?... see the rope and don’t get any on you.

I agree with you JB and rolmops that maybe we don't need a priest running the place afterall.

I agree with this. Also I would like to add shrink the size of government. Let us keep our hard earned money!

You Bill-haters are neat to read. You support Guili because you find him a great leader even though his morals are questionable. Yet the only thing that can be hung on Bill is Monica. I have not seen what he did that was opposed. Whitewater was found to have about as much basis as WMD. So the right jumped to Jennifer. Hate him you can, but he was effective in getting his agenda put into action. No he was a liberal, that no more defines him than he was a tall white male.

As for Guili, I have not seen anything he has done that would make him a good president. McCain seems like he might be ok although I am not sure I trust the way he plays to the camera constantly.

How about Robert Gates, Sec. of Defense. Maybe a dark horse without a political agenda. Where is Cheney is this mist? Who else is out there for the Republicans. Anyone left who is not chasing the young male pages.

As a true independent, I can tell you the difference between Clinton and Giuliani. Let me preface it by saying the I voted for Clinton both times AND I inhaled. Clinton is a liar. Giuliani threw it out there for the public and didn't hide it.
As far as Monica being the only thing... please. What about the missile tech to China? You don't consider that a massive betrayal?

You haven't seen anything Giuliani has done? How about his amazing leadership during the disaster?

Re: Rudy Giuliani for President

Although his popularity was pretty well in the dumper prior, Rudy responded well to a disaster. Better than Bush did. I think he would make a better president than Bush. I also think Alfred E Newman would make a better president than Bush. So the only direction the republicans have to go is Up. :)

I see two double standards here. Regarding his personal antics and marriage, if he were on the other ticket, you repubs would be first to bring that up to virulently dismiss his alleged qualifications. The other is his alleged qualifications. As former Mayor of New York, that might qualify him for a Governor's run, not a Presidential one. You repubs bring up Obama's short National experience. Guiliani has ZERO!

One thing that bugs me. Is he profiting from the 9/11 attacks? Would he have any name recognition outside of NY without it? Would anybody have ever uttered the possibility of a presidential run without thousands of people getting killed? Bad Vibes, man. :%

I'm not sure I'd like a prez that was a former war prisoner...he might not be willing to pull the trigger if need be....(ie mccain)...

What does than mean? Are you implying some weakness? He didn't surrender, he got shot down.

RF..I realize he was shot down and captured...spent a conciderable time in a pow camp....in particularly the Hanoi Hilton....but...if you listen to some of his comments...he has on more than one occasion made comments to not support certain actions thruout the yrs....he's a mild hawk and I personally think that he may be hesitant in a time of stress....I don't know for sure that he would...but I just have a gut feel about McCaine might still have problems.....I like McCaine..but I just think he doesn't have a good gut check....but again..that's just my opinion.....he maybe completely 180degs. different from my impressions.....

New Yorkers that I have talked to give him a lot of credit for cleaning up crime in the city and fiscal responsibility. Seems to me that these attributes would be useful in the white house.
