School Uniforms.
Can't recall which year, but a long time back we had a discussion on school uniforms.
Well my youngest Hayden has started High School (grade 8) and has a REAL uniform.
This is the summer version. The winter comes with a tie and a Blazer.
At the meet-the-school thing last year, the Headmaster had Seniors parade in the uniforms for us parents.
He then announced there would be no variations to the dress code, there would be no jewelry, no make-up, no non-standard hair cuts and if there were any parents who had any issue with this, then he requested they withdraw their child from the school immediately.
The topic was not open for discussion.
He also stated that if the uniform was not worn correctly, the child would attend Detention after school on Friday....parents would be notified, and would collect the child from the Main Office at the competion of detention.
The policy on mobile phones is a corker too.
The bloke sitting next to me whispered " I got me my moneys worth already".
The uniforms rather expensive, but considering the quality of it there is little doubt it is way cheaper than not having a uniform.
Keep in mind, the kid is 12yrs.
Cheers

[colour=blue]Me too. I also believe that phones & ipods should be banned although my ankle biters carried a phone for emergencies, it was programmed to dial 2 numbers only - home and 000 (our 911).

Ok...so you have one the same vintage as mine jimlad.
Obviously the standard for 'hair-cuts' is similar too.
Amazing how the kids 'feel' about their uniforms. Very proud of it.
Great shot.

Actually QC in California has a wee bloke about the same age.....guess he would have started High School this year too.
Does he wear a Uniforn too QC?
Cheers
Phillip

(Jeeeez, just occured to me....I suggested to QC if he hadn't been born an American he may have had a Cornish accent....and that is where you come from. I am familar with the accent.....got family in Liskeard....and whenever I see the re-runs of the 2 Ronnies taking off Cornish yokals it reminds me of them. Hopefully QC hasn't seen that!!!!)

I wore a school uniform in private school, plaid skirt, knee socks, jacket and beanie. It takes away a little bit of the competition, every child looks the same, more attention on studies than on trying to dress cool. No fads for the teachers to deal with and in the end I think its cheaper on the parents.

Of course, you would never have had a beer at the Fountain Hotel on the Parade would you. A very dear relation, husband and her son owned the place for many a while...they have the Punch Bowl Inn at Longreath now.
A whole part of our family comes from there, and Davenytown, on the Moors.

Ladyfish:
You'r dead right. It does all those things.
Initial costs are very high, but when they grow out of it, off to the uniform shop and sold 2nd hand.
Hayden will get a Blazer for winter that way if we can....one winter and he will be out of it, then back to the shop.
Whats a beanie? we know a beanie as a woolen type of balaclava. Is yours a lady version of a boater?
Cheers

Not what we call a jodpher is it.....an elasticated-sides ankle boot with no laces that you pull on with front and back tabs. Flat heel..
We wear them as work boots with steel caps, and another version as dress boots with our moleskin trousers.
Very Okker.

Re: School Uniforms

If there ever was a subject that creates mixed feelings in me, it is 'school uniforms'. There is no doubt that they do everything that is claimed. In that sense they are good. On the otherhand I kind of see it as a loss of freedom, kinda Anti-American if you will.

In the end, I believe that they are necessary, not to control the kids, but to control the parents who are unable to excercise reasonable restraint in what apparel they buy for their kids.

Re: School Uniforms

Here are my middle and youngest, 13 and 11: edit: sounds like the young lady is 13 . . . keep reading . . .

Sandy%20and%20Brian%201st%20day%20school%2006-07.jpg

First day of school for Brian (with Mrs. QC) September 06. He's in 5th grade in what we call Elementary school. One more year for him there. Long hair is pretty big with all of my guys (me too I guess) and our Public school system is too casual if you ask me. I support uniforms, but it isn't gonna happen unless they go private.

Although Aaron is not at school here, he would wear that. Our rules are no logos and no words of any kind. Meaningless patterns and designs are OK. He's in 8th grade, 2nd year of what we call Junior High School. He'll be a Freshman in High School next year. Four years there and most are 18 at the time of graduation.
